Starting July 1, 2018, we will no longer be able to fill prescriptions for certain medications here at Stratford Hills Veterinary Center.
Due to a recent change in the state of Virginia Prescription Monitoring Program, we can no longer fill prescriptions for longer than 7 days for medications such as: Tramadol, Tussigon, Gabapentin, and medications that contain Codeine. This may affect your pet’s prescriptions if they take chronic medications for pain or cough. Other pain medication like Rimadyl and Galliprant are not affected by this new rule.
Our doctors will need to write a prescription for any controlled substances, and you can fill it for your pet at a local pharmacy. Be aware that this prescription will need to include the name, address, and date of birth of the pet’s OWNER that will be getting the medication.
If you have any questions regarding this change in state law or about your pet’s medications, please call us at 804-272-7544.
